What type of domain name should I buy?
Posted on 25th November 2020
When I meet with local people setting up new businesses one of my first questions is "have you purchased your company domain name?"
Most of the time the answer is "no" and sometimes the answer is even "what do you mean, domain name?"
This is not a problem as part of every new it'seeze website package we include the purchase of 1 domain name of your choice (subject to availability) and up to five email addresses. Once purchased this domain name is licensed to you and if you wish to transfer away from ourselves in the future we assist with this.
So what is a domain name? It's basically the address that your website is attached to starting with www. for example www.itseeze-colchester.co.uk
This address is very important as it's the gateway to your business brochure or shop so it needs to be as short as possible, easy to read and understand. Most UK based and trading businesses only need a .co.uk ending domain but if you are starting a new business we would recommend that you purchase the .com to prevent other people from purchasing it later on.
We would also suggest avoiding domain names with confusing spellings such as colchesterreaddentists.
As of 2014, many more domain extensions became available such as .london, .gym, guru and so on. Although this allows for more flexibility in terms of marketing the vast majority of domains purchased are still those that have been in existence for years such as .com and .co.uk.
it’seeze web design Colchester can register any kind of domain for you although certain unusual domains will carry a premium price and will not be eligible as your free domain. Please contact us directly for more assistance on Ipswich 01473 845123 or Colchester 01206 512093.
